Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive medical treatment that utilizes acoustic sound waves to stimulate tissue healing and regeneration. How Does Shock Wave Work?

There are currently 2 types of shockwave treatments on the market today, Radial Pressure Shockwaves and Focused Shockwaves. When comparing radial and focused shock wave therapy, the main considerations are penetration depth and localization of the treatment. As you might imagine, the greater the depth penetration of the waves, the easier it is to treat deep issues in the tendons, muscles or bones. Focused Shockwave is able to stimulate a deeper healing factor, and thus better treatment response, without damaging the skin.

What Does It Do?

— 1) Neovascularization – or the growth of new blood vessels. Encourages the body through a series of processes to create new blood flow into the targeted area, improving healing.
— 2) Collagen production – collagen is a crucial component in tendons, ligaments, and muscles. Shockwave therapy encourages collagen production at the targeted tissue through mechanotransduction.
— 3) Cellular Metabolism – increase in cell energy as the cells take on the energy of the treatment as well as through other biological cascades.
